It's not always practical to purchase the next-generation iPhone model as soon as it comes out, especially if your device is only a generation older. However, if you think that it's worth the upgrade, you can always trade in your old phone, and in the next weeks, you could get more credit for it.
iPhone Trade-In Credit Increase
Apple has been accepting old devices for credit when someone wants to surrender it and purchase a newer model, but there's only so much it can cover when you're getting the latest model, which means that you have to add more to make up for the price.
From May 20th to June 3rd, however, Apple retail stores will be giving just a bit more credit than they usually do for trade-ins in the US and Canada, for those who intend to upgrade to a model from the iPhone 15 series, as reported by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.
The exact price that iPhone owners will be getting depending on the model they are trading in for is unknown, although The Verge mentioned that an iPhone 14 Pro Max can go for $630, which covers more than half of the iPhone 15 Pro Max's price of $1,199.
Is It Worth Upgrading One Generation Up?
That depends on what you need your iPhone for or what you consider an upgrade. Under the Pro Max series, both the iPhone 15 and iPhone 14 don't have that big of a difference when it comes to specs and features.
Both have a 6.7-inch screen with a Super Retina XDR display and are equipped with ProMotion technology. The two models feature the Dynamic Island, which Apple boasts is a "magical way to interact with the iPhone."
Apple's iPhone 15 Pro Max does see an upgrade with its chip. It features an A17 Pro chip with a 6-core CPU, 6-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine, as opposed to the older model's A16 Bionic chip, which has a 6-core CPU, 5-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine.
The back of the phone for the latest model is made of titanium with a textured matte glass back, while the iPhone 14 Pro Max uses a stainless steel back with a textured matte glass back. It's somewhat of a downgrade since stainless steel is considered sturdier than titanium.
The camera features are more or less the same with a 48MP main camera, capable of snapping ultra-wide photos and telephotos at high resolution. The only difference is that the iPhone 15 Pro Max has next-generation portraits with Focus and Depth Control.
As for the charging port, the iPhone 14 Pro Max still uses the lighting cable but supports USB 2, while the iPhone 15 Pro Mac already uses the new USB-C port, which allows for up to 10x faster transfers for files, along with the support for USB 3.
There are not many upgrades to see between the two, which means it might not be worth the trade-in yet. It would be for older models like the iPhone 13, but the iPhone 14 Pro Max is still a relatively new phone to replace.
