Samsung reportedly has a new Galaxy Tab S line in the works, boasting top-notch WQXGA AMOLED displays with 2560 x 1600 resolution.
The company has already launched a number of tablets this year, including its latest Galaxy Tab 4 family and the high-end PRO models. Samsung did say that it will be focusing more of its efforts on tablets in 2014, and the company seems dedicated to this endeavor. A new Galaxy Tab S lineup is reportedly in the pipeline and is expected to launch at the higher-end of the tablet market.
According to a new exclusive report from SamMobile, the upcoming Galaxy Tab S devices will come in two sizes: one with an 8.4-inch display and another with a 10.5-inch screen. The slates will reportedly be the first tablets to boast fingerprint sensors integrated in their Home button, just like the new Galaxy S5 flagship smartphone. Aside from features such as PayPal payments and fingerprint unlock that are already associated with Samsung's fingerprint scanner, the Galaxy Tab S line will reportedly sport a new feature called Multi-User login.
In terms of specifications, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Tab S lineup will pack Exynos 5 5420 octa-core processors paired with Mali-T628 graphics and 3GB of RAM, 8-megapixel rear cameras and 2.1-megapixel front shooters. Connectivity options will reportedly consist of Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0, microUSB 2.0, and an IR blaster. On the software side, the slates will launch with Android 4.4.2 KitKat on board.
The new Galaxy Tab S tablets will reportedly feature a similar design to the new Galaxy Tab 4 line, but with notably slimmer edges and a perforated pattern on the back, much like the Galaxy S5. Samsung will also be offering new flip covers for its upcoming lineup, with at least two color options: Shimmer White and Titanium Grey.
Samsung reportedly planned to release six Galaxy Tab S models initially, but has changed course along the way.
"Initially, Samsung wanted to release a total of six variants of the Galaxy Tab S - WiFi, 3G and LTE. However, our insiders tell us that Samsung has just dropped the 3G variant for now, so Samsung will probably only release 4 variants," notes SamMobile.
The four variants that remain in the cards are the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 Wi-Fi with model number SM-T700, the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 LTE with model number SM-T705, the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 Wi-Fi with model number SM-T800, and the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 LTE with model number SM-T805.
Another interesting bit of information, meanwhile, refers to the processor department. While Samsung typically uses Qualcomm chipsets for its LTE devices, this time the company will reportedly do things differently with its Galaxy Tab S. According to SamMobile's sources, Samsung is now buying LTE modems for Intel and using them with its own Exynos 5 Octa 5420 chipset. Moreover, the company is also using in-house silicon in order to reduce manufacturing costs, the report further reveals.
Currently no information is available regarding the pricing or release date for this purported Samsung Galaxy Tab S lineup, but we'll keep you up to date as soon as we hear more. In the meantime, take this report with a grain of salt.
