YouTube has officially rolled out Playables, a collection of over 75 free games, allowing users to play directly on the app.
Playable is now gradually released across Android and iOS YouTube apps through the Explore menu.
YouTube Offers Playables to All Users
YouTube initially launched Playables as an exclusive offer to its Premium subscribers. The first phase of the test featured fewer games and only allowed limited gameplay to players.
In a blog post, YouTube announced that the feature will now be available to all users. To try Playables, simply go to the main YouTube Home page on either the desktop or the Android and iOS app.
The platform also shared that the app can save the game progress and track the all-time best scores of each player. Popular titles like Angry Birds Showdown, Cut the Rope, Chess Classic, and more are now available.
YouTube Joins Expansion to Gaming
Social media companies are now investing in developing in-app casual gaming on top of their primary service. LinkedIn, known for its professional side, rolled out its game offerings to increase time on the platform.
Streaming giants like Netflix have also added games to its app to encourage all ages to spend more time on the app. The company is continuously expanding its exclusive gaming collection through various partnerships with game developers.
YouTube Playables is currently widening its availability to more users. The company announced that it could take months before the feature becomes available to all users.
As of writing, YouTube is encouraging early users to share feedback and ideas on how to improve the gaming feature. This could be a hint that Playables will be one of the platform's long-term commitments.
