Cadillac is posed to release its cheapest and most affordable luxury EV model yet with the 2025 Optiq for only $54,000.
Much more affordable than the $64,000 Lyriq or Tesla's $77,990 Model X car, Cadillac's upcoming EV project is pitched as an entry-level model for drivers transitioning to zero-carbon emission cars.
The model is set to have a much smaller compartment compared to Cadillac's previous EVs, but will still have all the technological advancements the carmaker has introduced to its luxury cars.
This includes the hallmark dual-motor all-wheel drive, Super Cruise hands-free driver assistance, and several Google-powered features.
The car will reportedly be slower than the much pricier Lyriq at only 300 horsepower but will still cover great distances with a total range going as high as 300 miles.
According to The Verge, the vehicle is aimed primarily at attracting younger generations who are just starting to get their first cars and do not have the excessive budget most Cadillac owners have.
EV Makers Begin Marketing Towards Younger Generations
Cadillac is not the only automaker that has recently shifted its marketing strategies to attract younger generations amid a slower market from older demographics.
With over 58% of the Gen Zs planning to switch to EVs in the next five years, carmakers have a better chance of attracting potential customers, especially newly licensed drivers.
The trend has since inspired many EV manufacturers like Tesla, Chevrolet, Nissan, and Kia to roll out cheaper cars for younger drivers.
More trade-in deals have also popped up for bigger discounts and bonuses for drivers willing to switch their old cars to brand-new EVs.
Other Affordable EVs in the Market for New Drivers
If the Cadillac 2025 Opiq still looks expensive, new car owners can always turn to Tesla's Model Y ($43,990) or the Nissan Engage e-4ORCE for $43,590.
While there is no notable quality in both cars, their prices and mileage provide a good introduction for beginning drivers who are shifting toward electric cars.
Once accustomed, drivers can then choose a much pricier car if they see fit.
