Anthropic Allows Users to Create Personal Chatbot Assistant

Anthropic launched its Tool Use or Function Calling, allowing users to create a customized chatbot assistant based on various needs.

The feature is now available across the Claude 3 model family for developers who use Anthropic Messages API, Amazon Bedrock, and Google Vertex AI.

Anthropic Tool Use Promotes More User Control

The tool can analyze data to create personalized recommendations or perform various tasks. The assistant can be easily created by someone with access to an API and a coder.

Moreover, it can support different media files like images for better visual analysis. Anthropic advised users to provide extremely detailed descriptions to create the most functional and efficient assistant.

In addition, users can also use examples of how to use the tool. However, the company clarified that a detailed description is more significant and instructed that examples must be added after the description.

Anthropic Explores Personalized Chatbots for Claude

According to Dianne Penn, project lead at Anthropic, the company has been beta-testing the tool since April. The team managed to test the Claude tool with the participation of thousands of customers.

As of May 30, Anthropic announced that Tool Use is no longer in beta testing. The feature is now generally available to Claude 3 developers.

The company revealed some of its next steps, including browsing the repository for code examples that will allow a calculator tool to function with Claude. Anthropic also aims to create a customer service agent with client-side tools and extract structure JSON through Claude and Tool Use.

The pricing of the feature remains the same as other Claude API requests and will depend on the total number of input tokens sent to the model. The company also reminded users that some requests might require multiple round-trips between the code and Claude, which could increase token costs.
