Samsung filed a suit against Oura to prevent the latter company from filing a patent suit once the Galaxy Ring launches in August.
The electronics giant is seeking a "declaratory judgment" against Oura, citing that the upcoming Galaxy Ring does not infringe existing patents of the other company.

Samsung Prevents Impending Lawsuit Against Galaxy Ring
Oura debuted its smart ring line in 2015. Since then, the company has filed for patents to protect its smart ring IPs against competitors.
According to the suit, Oura allegedly has a history of filing lawsuits against other companies based on "features common to virtually all smart rings." The company previously sued direct competitors like RingConn, Circular, and others.
Samsung filed a preemptive suit upon anticipating the potential Oura lawsuit. The company disclosed how Oura released a statement about strengthening its IP portfolio after the announcement of Galaxy Ring.
Oura Monitors Samsung Galaxy Ring Ahead of Launch
Earlier this year, Oura CEO Tom Hale shared that the company would closely monitor Samsung's new wearable device. He also emphasized the strength of the company's IP portfolio during an interview with CNBC.
Moreover, Oura also declared that the company is willing to take appropriate action should there be any possible conflict with competitors. Some of the possible factors for suit could include similarities in sensors, batteries, electronics, and more.
Samsung's device will feature lifestyle tracking feature similar to its Galaxy Watch. This includes trackers for sleep, heart rate, activity, and more, which will be logged on Samsung Health App.
The Galaxy Ring's final design was decided around mid-May with the production scheduled in mid-June. Samsung's newest wearable device is expected to be released in the U.S. market some time this August.
