How to Keep Unwanted Posts on Your X Recommendations

It is always annoying to see unwanted posts being recommended on X's (formerly Twitter) "For You" even after customizing your feed according to your preferences.

To keep your recommendations clean, here are some steps you can use to remove unwanted posts from ever popping up:

Block Paid Subscription Accounts

As many users have noted in the past, most of the spam, nonsensical content on the platform came from accounts paying X's paid subscription services.

One of the perks of the $8-per-month membership is boosted visibility to the post, ensuring that more people will see it.

The subscription also comes with a chance to monetize an account based on the number of engagements, resulting in "bait posts" and spam content to maximize profit.

To avoid seeing these engagement-bait posts, the best way is to block all accounts with X's blue checkmark.

There are several extensions people can even use for free to block subscribed accounts of their choosing via Google Web Store and GitHub.

Keep Away from X Ads

Another source of frustrating unwanted posts on the platform was its ads. Since major brands left X, the site has been accepting random posts for promotion to keep its ad revenue afloat.

This results in the surge of conspiracy theories and political disinformation spreading through undeletable ads. Even a blocked account can still appear on your timeline through ads.

However, a method can still block out these pervasive ads completely in your timeline. One way is to use browsers with built-in ad-blockers like Opera, Firefox, and Brave.

While this method is not 100% certain, the appearance of ads on the platform can be reduced. You just need to be sure you are using the browser when accessing X or the ad-blocker will not work.

Create/Join Lists

If you only use X for certain types of content, the best way to keep irrelevant posts on your feed without completely blocking the platform's recommendation system, the only option is to use its Lists feature.

The feature works similarly to Reddit's subreddit where only certain topics will appear. You only need to add a few accounts and posts to the list to provide the algorithm enough pattern to provide exclusive content according to your preferences.

The same can be done by joining existing lists where most communities and fandoms directly communicate about their interests and hobbies.
