Disappearing YouTube 'Like' Button is a Bug, Platform Claims

The disappearing YouTube "Like" and "Dislike" buttons are apparently caused by a weird bug affecting PC users.

In a support page published on Tuesday, Google clarified that videos still receive the likes when the thumbs-up button is pressed, it just "isn't working as intended."

The post did not indicate when the issue will be fixed, although the bug seems less frequent than when it was first reported.

The issue was first noted on Reddit earlier this week as several users complained about the "Like" button suddenly disappearing when clicked.

This was not the first time the glitch bugged users on the web platform, with a post going back six months ago complaining about the same problem, as YouTube and Google rolled out new features on the site.

YouTube Thumbnails Unclickable

For some users, the disappearing "Like" buttons are not the only glitch encountered on YouTube this week. Several people shared online that the many video thumbnails on the desktop version suddenly became unclickable.

The videos can still be accessed by opening the link or going to the channel's main page, meaning the issue is on the platform's side rather than the uploader or the user.

YouTube has yet to address this issue as more users report encountering similar problems.

Users Poke Fun at YouTube Glitches

Amid the double-whammy some users may have experienced while using YouTube over the past few days, many people still took the time to poke fun at the corporation for how it handles things.

One of the common jokes is that the issue is also affecting the "Unlike" button, a feature that has basically become useless after YouTube disabled the dislike count two years ago.

A user even took the chance to reference a common many YouTubers tell their viewers, that they might have "smashed the like button too hard."
