You Might See Cybertruck Police Cars Rolling Out Soon

Imagine having a normal enough day and suddenly spotting Cybertruck sporting a police look. That might become a reality soon as companies are trying to make a design for it, so you better be prepared to see sci-fi-looking cop cars rolling in the streets.

Cybertruck Cop Cars

Cybertrucks have been linked to mostly bad news since it was released. Some were minor enough like delays while others reported that their wrist had been sliced open because the vehicle's edges were just that sharp.

This time, the prismatic EV has been connected to relatively good news as a design for a Cybertruck police car was released by Unplugged Performance. It appears to be in a matte-like black color with the signature red and blue police lights on the roof and below the doors.

Unplugged Performance is a vehicle modification company, and has partnered with UP-FIT to design the "tactical" Cybertruck, as mentioned in Gizmodo, which is described as the "most ballistics capable Patrol vehicle."

This isn't the first time UP-FIT would be working on police cars either as it has already sold modifications to the Anaheim Police Department for the Tesla Model Y. Unplugged Performance President Ben Schaffer said that they were already working with police departments for the design.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk himself approves of the idea. A user on X asked if the Cybertruck would make a good police vehicle, and the tech billionaire replied with the "100" emoji. All this points to the real possibility of a cop car straight out of a cyberpunk-themed movie.

It would make sense especially since the vehicle is advertised as bulletproof, although that depends on the caliber of the firearm. Business Insider reported that the Cybertruck was able to survive shots from a 9mm handgun, although bigger bullets might do more damage.

Let's not forget the demonstration Elon Musk showed as he boasted that Cybertruck's windows could withstand great blunt force, and then ended up actually smashing the glass in front of an audience when he threw the steel ball.

The Cybertruck Still Has a Few Kinks to Resolve

Even though many Cybertruck owners and enthusiasts are impressed by the vehicle, there are still reports about the car having a few issues that were major enough to render it unusable. For instance, one owner had his Cybertruck shut down for hours after putting it through a car wash.

Another suffered through a coolant leak not even a day after getting the vehicle from a dealership and driving 35 miles. The coolant started leaking while the vehicle was already parked, which means that it was not due to potentially reckless driving.

With that said, the vehicle has seen a great level of success still. It is officially the second-best-selling electric pickup truck in the US market. It was beaten by Ford's F-150 Lightning, as reported by Autoblog.

In March 2024, Cybetruck saw 1,158 registrations while the F-150 LIghtning had 2,893. However, unlike the Ford pickup EV, the Cybertruck does come with ballistic protection, which is why it makes more sense for it to be a cop car.
