A Halo remaster for PlayStation is possibly in the works as Microsoft and Xbox plans to bring the beloved franchise across other consoles, The Verge reported.
According to the report, the Halo: Combat Evolved remake is currently being considered to be part of Microsoft's multi-console release strategy, Project Latitude.
This is the same strategy Xbox used in the release of Hellblade 2, Hi-Fi Rush, and Sea of Thieves as the game publisher moves to maximize profits from both PlayStation and Nintendo Switch players.
The Verge did not indicate an exact release date for the Halo remaster but hinted that the game would likely come out sometime in 2025.
It is worth noting that the remaster is still in early production and still at risk of being canned if executives think that the project will not pan out.
What is New for Halo: Combat Evolved Remaster?
The PlayStation release was not the first time Bungie's classic first-person shooter received a remaster for another platform.
Steam currently has the original Halo trilogy as a single-purchase package with several gameplay improvements and better graphics.
This is in addition to potential PlayStation-exclusive items players can get from the platform, a trend already seen in Batman: Arkham Knight, Genshin Impact, Destiny 2, and many more.
Remaster Vs Remake
For those still unfamiliar with the term, a remaster has a huge difference with game remakes.
Remasters, like the 2018 Dark Souls release, usually focus on improving the game's graphics and performance for other platforms like PCs and smartphones.
Remakes, on the other hand, build an established title from the ground up with the characters and main story plotlines only remaining as a new studio develops the game with modern tools.
In the case of Halo, a remake of its classic trilogy may still be far from reality.
