Sony will soon sunset its rewards program for Visa credit card owners by the end of the year, seven years after it first launched.

According to its updated FAQ page, the company will be terminating its Sony Rewards program on Dec. 31, along with all remaining points users have on their dedicated Visa cards.

As of writing, Sony has already started blocking new applications to the program.

Pre-existing Sony and PlayStation card owners can still the program system to redeem points and purchase credit requests, although sending physical bonus points via mail would stop after July 21.

Even after the program's app and website close on New Year's Eve, users may still be able to contact its customer service systems until Feb. 14, 2025.

Sony did not provide an exact reason why it is shutting down the rewards program, although customer reviews and revenue scores.

Sony Rewards Faced Headwinds for Years

Even two years ago, many users already felt dissatisfied with Sony's rewards program due to platform issues, poor customer service, and sold-out items still being sold.

This is in addition to an inflexible point redemption system and a large annual interest rate that discouraged many users from using the rewards program.

It did not help that Microsoft launched its own Mastercard-powered rewards program for Xbox last year, providing new members access to three months' worth of Game Pass Ultimate subscriptions.

PlayStation Loyalists Still Have PlayStation Stars

For people only using Sony Rewards for their PlayStation purchases, they can still refer to its dedicated loyalty program that provides more tangible rewards than the soon-to-be-defunct credit rewards system.

PlayStation Stars is a gaming-centric loyalty rewards system Sony in 2022 to provide avid fans a chance to fill their digital wallets the more games they purchase on the platform.

As of writing, Sony has yet to declare any plans to discontinue its PlayStation Stars program.
