Peacock Unveils AI-Powered Olympics Recap

In a press release, NBC Sports announced its personalized recap of the Olympic Games Paris 2024. The new feature is part of the platform's comprehensive coverage of the sports event.

The daily Olympic recap will be in collaboration with Emmy Award-winning announcer, Michaels. The company utilized generative AI to recreate the announcer's voice to provide updates and highlights of the events from each previous day.

According to NBC, the tool was trained using Michaels' past appearances on the channel to match his signature expertise and execution for sportscasting. A customized playlist will be provided each day for the audience based on their chosen sports.

NBC to Review All Content Before the Release

According to NBC, a specific team of editors is assigned to review all content from audio to clips to ensure that all content is accurate. Once the content has been reviewed, the recap will be made available to users.

"Our in-house Peacock team of engineers, product managers, and data scientists developed a proprietary process to integrate, optimize, and validate state-of-the-art large language model and voice synthesis technology to create this experience," said John Jelley, SVP of product for Peacock.

The AI-generated Olympic recap by Michaels will be widely available to Peacock subscribers starting July 27. The feature will supported on browsers, iOS, and iPadOS Peacock apps.

The first edition of the recap will be a special feature from the opening ceremony which will be the same for everyone. The personalized playlist will start on July 28.
