AI features are coming to more devices and products, which is expected with the rising popularity of AI technology. As Google adds Gemini to more of its services, Gmail is also getting the Summarize feature for both Android and iOS.
Gemini's Summarize on Gmail
The Summarize feature is useful for people who don't have the time to make sense of long emails and would rather read about the important points. However, it doesn't work on one-thread emails, which means you will still have to skim through newsletters.
It does work when there are at least two responses. When you tap on the "Summarize this email" button, the AI will create bullet points detailing the important information in the conversation, as reported by 9To5Google.
You may even expand the slide so that it would take up the entire screen. However, you won't find a text at the bottom yet, which means that you can't ask the chatbot any follow-up questions if some things are unclear or missing any information.
Fortunately, Google is already on its way to providing a solution for that problem. The company intends to release the Gmail Q&A and Contextual Smart Reply, although it's unknown when it will be rolled out to eligible devices.
There are already a few other AI features you can take advantage of in Gmail's side panel, such as asking for suggestions for a response, helping with drafting an email, and asking questions to find specific information within Gmail and Google Drive.
Other AI Features in Google Products
In a more general usefulness, Gemini can serve as a research analyst, which can help you spot trends, synthesize information, and identify business opportunities. You can even ask the AI chatbot how you want information to be presented such as bullet points.
It also boasts of being a capable sales associate. Some things you can do in Google Docs include brainstorming for a new product, creating an outline for a pitch, or writing a blog post about an upcoming pitch, as per the blog post.
For Slides, you can use Gemini to generate images and designs using just text prompts. The side panel offers functions like summarizing the deck, creating a slide, brainstorming ideas, and more. It even has specific suggestions like creating a slide highlighting key wins from your team.
In Google Meet, you can use the AI features to edit effects that allow you to generate backgrounds you can use to look professional. All you have to do is describe what you want it to look like and Google will present you with four choices in under 20 seconds.
With the use of AI technology in productivity apps, it would be easy enough to improve campaign performances since you can ask it to highlight areas that can be improved, and even create iterations to see which will work best.
It can also lower the cost of creations since generative AI can immediately whip up texts and media that you might need, all without having to "scale up your resources." Lastly, it provides the opportunity to make your work be more targeted and personalized.
