Since AI is already creeping into every aspect of the tech industry, it was only a matter of time before it was added to cybersecurity measures as well. Google, using Gemini AI, will add extra measures when it comes to detecting and assessing cybersecurity issues.
Gemini AI for Cybersecurity
Google is releasing a new cybersecurity product called Threat Intelligence, and it will be a combination of other services such as the Mandiant cybersecurity unit, VirusTotal threat intelligence, and of course, Gemini AI.
Using the Gemini 1.5 Pro large language model the new cybersecurity product will be able to work faster and provide more information for its users. To prove its effectiveness, Google tested the AI model included in the product, particularly on the WannaCry virus.
The company claims that it took only 34 seconds for Gemini 1.5 Pro to analyze the code of the 2017 virus, as well as identify the kill switch that would shut it down, as per The Verge. It's the same virus that affected hospitals, companies, and organizations globally.
As for the "intelligence" part of the product, Gemini AI is capable of summarizing the reports to inform users of how serious the problem could be. This way, victims of the cyberattack would know the next steps to take to control the situation.
It's even capable of monitoring potential threats before they can happen using a vast network of information, which gives users the opportunity to prepare for an attack and prioritize which systems to look after to avoid having their data accessed or stolen.
Since Google acquired Mandiant in 2022, the tech giant will also have the assistance of experts to assess security vulnerabilities around its AI projects. It's important to note that the same cybersecurity firm managed to uncover the SolarWinds cyber attack in 2020.
Mandiant will test the defenses of AI models as well as conduct red-teaming efforts, which are done by simulating real-world attacks to see how security measures will hold up. VirusTotal will also contribute as it posts threat indicators regularly.
Gemini AI Shortcuts You Can Use
It's already been established that Gemini AI has branched out and has several other applications other than cybersecurity. You can use Google's chatbot to assist you with other tasks, and you can access it easily as the search engine giant rolled out a shortcut.
Through the address bar, you can now simply type "@" and four shortcut options will appear with Gemini at first, followed by bookmarks, history, and tabs. By pressing the spacebar, you can immediately type in a prompt and you will be directed to the chatbot page.
On the mentioned page, the AI will generate the response to your query, and you'll be able to continue asking it questions. As 9To5Google reported, this feature is only available for desktop browsers, although Google might add it to mobile browsers as well.
If you cannot access the address bar shortcut, your browser might be outdated and you simply need to install the latest version. If the latest version fails to load the shortcut, you could try restarting it and trying again.
