Bumble encouraged its users to report cases of profiles using AI-generated photos and videos amid the increasing complaints on the dating platform.
Several users have been complaining about the surge of AI-generated photos being used on dating apps to scam and deceive other users.
Bumble Seeks Participation From Users to Report AI Profiles
Users are now presented with options to report a profile. A suspected account can be classified as a "fake profile" and an option for "using AI-generated photos or videos" will appear.
Bumble also shared other reporting options for different circumstances. For instance, accounts that promote inappropriate content, underage users, and scams are encouraged to be reported.
People who are suspected of imitating other people by using someone else's information and photos must also be reported to Bumble.
Bumble Prohibits Misleading Dating Information
Bumble announced that it is committed to removing any misleading element that could harm its users on the platform. The company is also working on improving its technology to ensure safety in the online dating environment.
"By introducing this new reporting option, we can better understand how bad actors and fake profiles are using AI disingenuously so our community feels confident in making connections," said Risa Stein, Bumble vice president of product.
The dating app reported that 71% of its Gen Z and Millenial users are in favor of limiting AI-generated content on dating apps. The majority of the respondents in the survey stated that using AI for photos is considered catfishing.
The Federal Trade Commission reported that around 70,000 people experienced fraud in 2022 due to fake dating profiles. The record is also expected to rise as generative AI continues to spread on the internet.
Bumble recently launched its Deception Detector to help identify and remove fake profiles, spammers, and scammers on the app through AI and human moderation. Fake profiles reportedly decreased by 45% since its launch.
