Netflix CEO is Hinting Potential AI Use in Film, TV Productions Again

Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos seems intent on actually integrating generative AI in future film and TV productions as the technology continues to sweep across Hollywood and the entertainment industry.

In a Q2 earnings interview with Variety, Sarandos hinted at potential AI use as a "great way for creators to tell better stories," claiming that many producers have already started experimenting with the technology.

AI is Like Hand-Drawn to CG Animation Transition, Netflix CEO Claims

Likening the technology to the industry's transition from hand-drawn to computer-generated animations, Sarandos said introducing generative AI could help curb production expenses, a factor many audiences "probably don't care much about budgets and arguably maybe not even the technology to deliver it."

The Netflix CEO's recent statements came after an earlier interview with The New York Times where Sarandos claimed AI would not replace human workers but "the person who uses AI well might take your job."

These statements came just months after the back-to-back writers' and actors' guilds Hollywood strike over better wages and protection against the impacts of generative AI in the industry.

Generative AI Remains a Controversial Topic in Entertainment Industry

Contrary to Sarandos' claims, the use of generative AI remains a highly-frowned subject among actors and audiences on its potential applications in content creation.

In fact, Netflix was already criticized in the past after audiences pointed out supposed AI use in the true-crime documentary "What Jennifer Did."

Similar sentiments can be seen online for the promotional poster for the "Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef" special event.

Despite people's adverse views on the technology, many studios are reportedly still exploring potential AI use in productions as AI firms cater their products to the industry.
