Tesla is reportedly posing to increase prices for its Model S and X EVs in the US and Canada despite the company facing challenges to sell its cars in North America.
First reported by Electrek, Tesla inserted a $2,000 price increase for the Model S and X vehicles last week as industry experts project lower sales growth for the company this quarter.
As of writing, the long-range Model S is now worth $74,990 with the plaid version fetching up to $89,990.
The standard long-range Model X will also go from $77,990 to $79,990 while the new price for the acceleration upgraded version is now at $94,990.
The company has yet to provide a statement regarding the reported price changes.
Tesla Seem to be Giving Up on Model S, X
Although Tesla did not provide an exact reason for the price hike, experts note that the recent price changes could mean that the company is already giving up on its older EV models.
The Tesla EVs have long been reported as struggling to keep up with their much cheaper alternatives, the Models 3 and Y, which is only further hurt by the sales slowdown happening in the US since last year.
It did not help that the vehicles have started showing their ages as the company barely released any upgrades on the Models S and X, making them less attractive to newer models.
The price increase is seen as Tesla putting the final nail to the coffin as it prepares to phase out the car models that once represented the company and its brand.
