OpenAI Tests AI Search Engine

In a blog post, OpenAI shared a demonstration video on how the new search engine functions. SearchGPT is capable of browsing relevant answers from different sources on the internet.

The search engine features a large textbox that asks the user "What are you looking for?" The tool is far from the usual search engine which only previews various relevant links based on the inquiry.

Instead, SearchGPT will organize and reflect the most relevant information from different references. For instance, users can search for music festivals and the engine will provide short details about each event along with an attribution link.

Users are also welcome to ask follow-up questions, making it easier to dig deeper into a specific topic in a short amount of time.

OpenAI Limits Access for SearchGPT for Testing

OpenAI is still in the process of testing the prototype before rolling it out to the public. The engine is powered by the GPT-4 family of models, ensuring its fast performance for testers.

"We're testing SearchGPT, a prototype of new search features designed to combine the strength of our AI models with information from the web to give you fast and timely answers with clear and relevant sources," the AI company wrote.

SearchGPT will only be accessible to 10,000 test users during its launch. The company also confirmed that it is working closely with third-party partners to build its search results.

OpenAI also revealed its plans to integrate the search features directly into ChatGPT once the company finished fine-tuning the tool.
