The U.S. Vice President, Kamala Harris, officially launched her TikTok account a few days after President Joe Biden announced his decision to suspend his re-election campaign.
Several Harris memes quickly flooded the platform after Biden's announcement.
Harris Joins TikTok Amid Presidential Elections Campaign
As of writing, Harris' account already has 1.2 million followers and 1.7 million likes for her first video. Her first post, where she officially introduced her account has accumulated 3.9 million views.
"We'll I've heard that recently I've been on the For You Page, so I thought I'd get on here myself," she said. Several users and followers commented on her post showing their support for the vice president.
Memes featuring Harris have been popular on TikTok ever since Biden made a shocking announcement to step down from his re-election campaign. He also revealed then that Harris will take his place as the new Democratic presidential nominee who will fight against the Republican former president Donald Trump.
Harris Hops on TikTok, Follows Biden's Strats
The Biden administration is responsible for signing the law that resulted in the hot issue between the government and TikTok's parent company, ByteDance. The current president also stated that he would support the potential ban of the platform as early as January 2025.
Regardless, Biden also joined the platform as part of his election campaign strategy. His team was also scrutinized for hopping on the platform despite pushing its ban.
Among TikTok's 170 million users, about a third of the voting population under 30s use TikTok as their news source.
Last June, Trump also joined the platform which currently has 9.2 million followers and 23.2 million likes.
