Spotify announced that an additional number of lyrics will be available to free users, increasing the monthly limit that was previously imposed.
The audio streaming platform quietly launched a limited lyrics availability to non-premium users last May.
Spotify Expands Monthly Lyric Limits After Complaints
Several users who enjoy the basic features of Spotify complained after noticing a monthly limit for available lyrics. The platform used to supply lyrics to every song that offers it, regardless of the status of the user.
The company decided to lock the unlimited viewing of lyrics behind the Premium plans' paywall. The feature was launched quietly without any direct statement which fueled the criticism from its users.
"At Spotify, we're always testing and iterating. This means the availability of our features can vary across tiers and between markets and devices. Over the coming weeks, we'll be expanding lyrics availability for Spotify Free users so more people can enjoy viewing more lyrics, globally," the company explained.
Spotify Explores New Features to Boost Subscription
Spotify is not shy to launch new features that are exclusively available to its Premium subscribers. Hence, it became a shock when the company decided to limit the usual features such as the lyric viewing.
Free users who tried to access more than three songs with lyrics each month often see the message "Enjoy lyrics on Spotify Premium." While the company did not disclose the exact additional numbers added for lyrics, some users seemed to be happy about it.
Spotify is assumed to be pushing more people to its subscription plans. The company previously reported that it has accumulated over 600 million monthly active users with 236 million under the Premium plan.
Spotify Premium costs $11.99 per month for an Individual plan, $16.99 for Duo, $19.99 for Family with up to six members, and $5.99 for a Student plan.
