Elon Musk, X Now Suing Advertisers for ‘Illegal Boycott,’ Claims ‘War’ in Court Battle

The lawsuit threat by Elon Musk before to X advertisers has now formally been filed. Musk filed a lawsuit against the World Federation of Advertisers (WFA) and the companies who pulled out of the platform in the past months. It was previously claimed by Musk that what they did was an "illegal boycott, and he is now saying that, this time, "it is war." It is expected that both sides would see each other in court.

In the latest suit, it was revealed to Musk that the said boycotts are an "antitrust action," with the defendants allegedly conspiring against the social media platform.

A new lawsuit filed in the US District Court for the Northern District of Texas from Elon Musk and the X Corp. comes after its previous threat of going against advertisers responsible for the "illegal boycott" that took place over the past several months. It was revealed here that Musk and X are asking for "compensatory damages" and are banking on the antitrust laws against the defendants.

The main defendant is the WFA, but it also includes huge companies like Uniliver PLC and Uniliver United States, Inc., Mars, Incorporated, CVS Health Corporation, and Ørsted A/S.

Musk and X are also targeting the WFA's Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM) initiative, saying that the organization and these companies are "conspirators" to the boycott.

The eccentric billionaire also shared his sentiments on X while reposting CEO Linda Yaccarino's open letter to advertisers, saying that after two years of peace, they are now ready for "war." In the lawsuit, Musk and X are demanding a trial by jury, and are ready for a court battle against the WFA and advertisers, with the company not looking to settle.

Elon Musk and the X Advertising Boycott

Since Elon Musk stepped in as Twitter's owner and CEO in 2022, it has lost significant companies that are in an advertising partnership with the social media platform.

However, it is not only that, as the short-word social media platform first lost users who opted for alternative social media apps, particularly those that are Elon Musk-free.

It was in 2023 and earlier this year when X faced a massive advertising boycott from renowned companies because of the controversial topics that Musk opened up on the platform. One of the most sensitive subjects that was the reason behind the boycotts was the tech billionaire's antisemitic statements posted on X, leading to companies denouncing this behavior and leaving the platform.

Companies like The Walt Disney Company, Amazon, Microsoft, and more have stopped running ads on X, while others like Coca-Cola, Netflix, and many more have limited their advertising content. All of these led to angering Musk and causing X to lose revenue.

Now, the X owner is taking matters into his own hands and suing the WFA and the other companies responsible for the so-called illegal boycott in an all-out war in court.
