YouTube Tests Community Notes Feature With Select Users

YouTube has invited a select group of users to test the community notes feature that would allow people to provide more context about specific content.

X initially introduced the same feature to mitigate the misinformation that has been plaguing the platform for years.

YouTube Explores Adding Community Notes for Videos

YouTube is reportedly inviting some of its users to try its new feature that bears similarity to X's community notes. The feature is still unnamed for now but the invitation stated that it would allow users to "add helpful notes to videos."

X user Ian Zelbo shared a screenshot of the invitation and a demonstration on how it would look like to the viewers. "These notes will provide additional information and create a better-informed YouTube community," the invitation read.

The feature was first announced by YouTube last June, however, the company took a few months before rolling it out to select users. YouTube allowed some of its viewers to submit short blurbs that could help clarify or correct certain information in video content.

YouTube Launches Pilot Testing for Community Notes Ahead of Election

As of writing, there is no official release date for the feature. YouTube added a section on the "Help" database that provided instructions on how to write and submit the notes.

Several users expressed their appreciation for the upcoming feature, citing that it would be a big help to mitigate misinformation, especially during the election period.

The pilot program is limited for now to mobile devices in the U.S. YouTube previously announced that it would invite participants through email or their Creator Studios account.

Selected users must provide feedback to the platform and determine if the submitted notes are "helpful," "somewhat helpful," or "unhelpful."
