TikTok Update: Group Chats for Up to 32 People Allowed, Stickers in DMs

The globally famous social media platform, TikTok, has now introduced one of the most requested features that will allow users to converse with more users. Group chats are now available for users to access and enjoy.

This new feature is one that is quite literally massive for TikTok as it allows up to 32 people to be added in a single chatroom. It shold be noted that TikTok has started to roll out this feature in select regions. 

Moreover, TikTok has introduced a second upgrade, which offers a new experience for direct messages (DMs) on the platform.

TikTok Group Chats are Now Here for Up to 32 People

In the latest release from TikTok Newsroom, it has been revealed that users will soon be able to enjoy group chats that can accommodate up to 32 people at a time. Users can add TikTok accounts into one group, send different content available on the platform, and have them react or talk about it in real-time.

It should be noted that even with this new featyre, TikTok is stressing on the importance of children's safety on the platform. As a matter of fact, teens aged 13 to 15 years old will not be allowed to access this feature, which is similar to its DM restrictions. For teens who are aged 16 to 17 years old, they may use and be part of group chats only if they have been invited to join by friends or mutuals. 

In addition, TikTok will limit the number of group chats they can make as well as the forwarding of messages. Group chats will likewise feature the option to mute or block people. 

As of press time, the new group chats feature is not yet available worldwide. The company is in the process of rolling out this new feature.

TikTok DMs Now Offer Stickers in Chat

In related new, TikTok has likewise introduced another feature that will improve the experience of sending and receiving DMs. The platform is now allowing users to send stickers to friends, family, and other mutual accounts.

The social media platform said that this feature was introduced to bring more creativity in 1:1 chats, allowing for more options than just sending videos, messages, and GIFs for users to enjoy.

From being a platform that was mostly filled with dance cover videos and the latest trends, TikTok has climbed the ranks over the years and has become one of the  most influential social media platforms available. Among the most significant experiences the app provides is the For You feed's algorithm, which has been enjoyed by many. However, it has also become the focus of regulations, particularly when it comes to what the younger audience should view.

The vertical video format was revolutionized by TikTok when it first started, which intially was in short form with a limit of 15 and 30-second videos. However, it has since expanded to long form over the recent years, offering 60-second videos, as well as 10 minute and 15 minute ones. Today, the longest option available is now 30 minutes.

With its growth, TikTok is not only expanding on content creation but also the social networking aspect of the platform. With the introduction of group chats and stickers in DMs, users have more to enjoy when using TikTok.
