The Grok family is expanding, and xAI has proudly introduced the latest additions, known as Grok-2 and Grok-2 Mini. These new additions promise a plethora of new experiences to try out in its current limited beta testing phase. In particular, Elon Musk's AI company has upgraded the Grok-2 with AI image generation that delivers instant media creation using text prompts.
It should be noted that all of these are available via X Premium. As of press time, only X Premium users have access to Grok. With the current version 1.5 that has been released, the company promises improvements with what it offers on beta.
Grok-2 Brings AI Image Generation Under X Premium Beta Testing
Grok-2 has finally arrived. According to an announcement by xAI, this version of the chatbot offers the latest improvements in its language model that are meant to expand more of its capabilities. It should be noted that, as of writing, Grok-2 remains in a beta testing phase. However, this has not stopped the company from sharing more about its new AI image generation features, claiming that it is a "state-of-the-art" AI assistant.
According to xAI, its early version of Grok-2, under the codename "sus-column-r," outperformed GPT-4 and Claude, but trailed behind the latest Gemini 1.5 Pro and ChatGPT-4o in the ELO scores. Different testers have shared Grok-2's latest image generation feature, praising its realistic creations.
It should likewise be noted that the Grok-2 is available for access by X's Premium subscribers only.
Grok-2 Mini is Also Coming Soon
Apart from Grok-2, xAI also has the Grok-2 Mini in the works, which is a "smaller" version of its latest release.
Despite being smaller, the company has assured that it is still capable of fulfilling a user's AI needs, finding the balance on speed and quality. It will be able for users to try later in the year.
Elon Musk, xAI, and Grok AI Chatbot
Towards mid-2023, Elon Musk and his social media platform, X, introduced the much-awaited take of the company on generative AI by introducing Grok. The chatbot was developed by Musk's subsidiary called xAI which, is headquartered in California.
Grok has been touted for its capacity to answer almost anything, including beyond-world questions. However, it was not until November of last year that it was made widely available to X Premium+ tier users. Previously, the chatbot was hidden behind a paywall since its release.
Earlier this year, Musk and xAI made Grok open-source. Musk pointed out that some tech companies have preferred to keep their AI developments away from the public, citing OpenAI as an example.
Despite its exclusivity to X Premium subscribers, it was previously teased by Musk that its renowned generative AI chatbot will soon be available for all users to access. However, this has not come to fruition as of press time. Instead, newer AI developments have continued to arrive from the company, particularly with the arrival of Grok-2 and the impending release of Grok-2 Mini.
