Google Search Now Links The Internet Archive’s Historical Results for Context

Google has partnered with The Internet Archive to offer links that lead to older webpage versions whenever a user searches for anything on Google Search. This aims to bring more context on the results a user gets. 

Through this function, users who are looking for a deeper understanding of a subject will be given a chance to do so without the need to expand more their search even more.  

Digital archives are an important part of the internet. This latest partnership between Google and The Internet Archive allows users to access these archives easily.

A report from 9to5Google shares that Google and The Internet Archive have forged a partnership to link the latter's historical results to Search and deliver context for users looking for older information. This experience will be beneficial for different kinds of internet users, especially for researchers who are looking to learn more from past studies. 

Whenever searching for information, Google's technology is known for offering the latest and top results available. However, this new collaboration will factor in previous data, which can also be beneficial to the user making the search.  

Users can pull up The Internet Archive's links on Google search results' "About this" page, offering them quick context, according to the Mountain View tech giant's statement.

Wayback Machine to Offer Similar Results Like Cached Pages

The Internet Archive offers its Wayback Machine to deliver the said contextual information on Search's results whenever users need to look for more information on Google's platform. It will be similar to a previous Google Search feature known as cached pages, which was removed earlier this year.

When it announced this feature's retirement, Google already planned to link The Internet Archive's digital library through Wayback Machine, a venture that turned true for the company. 

The Internet Archive's Massive Help to the Internet

There are multiple reasons for searching the web for older results, and this includes research, getting more context, looking into specific information that has been changed, or simply satisfying one's curiosity. This is what The Internet Archive offers with its nonprofit digital library, which started almost three decades ago.

From learning bountiful information to playing classic or retro games, users are treated to a network that links them to content posted in the past. . 

However, there are those who are against The Internet Archive. It once faced a lawsuit from record labels that sought to stop the Great 78 Project. Labels like Sony Music Entertainment and the Universal Music Group launched a lawsuit seeking $412 million in damages as the lawsuit alleged that the The Internet Archive committed copyright infringement for this venture.
