Samsung's much-rumored Galaxy F metal-clad smartphone has surfaced once again, popping up in another leaked press shot.
Rumors of a premium Galaxy smartphone have been making rounds for quite some time, suggesting that Samsung will finally reconsider its love of plastic and go for a more stylish metal build. The Galaxy S5 was rumored to come in two variants, one with a plastic body and the other with a metallic build, but nothing materialized so far.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 still sports a plastic body, just like its predecessors, albeit this time with a textured, band aid-like rear cover. Nevertheless, the rumor mill still insists on a premium version dubbed the Galaxy F and a new press render purportedly shows the device in all its metal glory.
Apple Insider claims that Samsung will launch this metal Galaxy F in an effort to better compete against Apple's highly-anticipated iPhone 6, which will finally sport a larger display.
"With a 4.7-inch iPhone rumored to be on the horizon, Samsung is reportedly readying its first non-plastic handset for a September unveiling in what could be an attempt to stave off defections from Galaxy buyers waiting for a larger-screened option from Apple," notes the Apple-centric publication.
The latest leaked image of the purported Samsung Galaxy F comes from none other than @evleaks, the well-known and trusted tipster who has offered accurate information countless times in the past when leaking yet-to-be-announced devices and plans.
While the tipster had previously revealed the Galaxy F in a gold color option, this time the new press render shows a "crystal clear" version of the smartphone. A black model has not leaked so far, but it is nonetheless expected to be among the options.
In terms of specifications, the purported Galaxy F is also expected to sport some slight improvements over the flagship Galaxy S5. The metal smartphone is rumored to sport a 5.3-inch QHD display with a resolution of 2560 x 2440 pixels, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor, and 3GB of RAM. Other rumored specs and features include a 16-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), a heart-rate sensor, a fingerprint scanner, as well as dust- and water-resistance.
Nothing is officially confirmed at this point, but it would make sense for Samsung to release a more premium smartphone to compete against Apple's large-screen iPhone 6. If rumors turn out to be accurate, September may be a great month for smartphone enthusiasts. As always, however, it's best to take all rumors and leaks with a grain of salt.
