Verizon Motorola Droid Maxx, Ultra, and Mini get Android 4.4.4 KitKat

The Motorola Droid Maxx, Droid Ultra, and Droid Mini smartphones for Verizon are in for a nice treat, as Android 4.4.4 KitKat is apparently ready to grace the devices soon.

Motorola launched its trio of Droid devices around this time last year, and a notable software bump is now coming their way. Android 4.4.4 KitKat's arrival comes shortly after the Nexus and Google Play Edition devices got the upgrade, giving Motorola a notable head start over rival manufacturers.

The company's popular Moto X, Moto E, and Moto G handsets are currently in the process of getting Android 4.4.4 KitKat, and the Droid Maxx, Droid Ultra, and Droid Mini are now in for the same treatment. This trio of devices is exclusive to Verizon Wireless in the U.S. and the handsets have proved to be quite popular, offering good specs at attractive price points. The Droid Maxx, for instance, has been highly praised for its battery capacity, as it is among the few smartphones that offer a long battery life.

According to a new report from Android Central, Motorola is currently soak testing the Android 4.4.4 KitKat update for these three devices. This means that only those who are part of the Motorola Feedback Network are seeing the update for now, but a general release will likely follow in the next few days.

In other words, Motorola has decided to skip the Android 4.4.3 version and go straight for the latest Android 4.4.4 KitKat build. This software version will bring notable improvements, including a neat set of bug fixes and enhancements. Motorola has reportedly added its own improvements, which reportedly cover camera performance, visual voicemail, as well as ISIS mobile payment support.

"If you haven't signed up for the Feedback Network you can expect to see this update hit your phone in the coming days as Motorola makes sure that everything goes according to plan with the soak test," Android Central points out.

The update weighs in at 285MB and will arrive shortly. If you own a Droid Maxx, Droid Ultra, or Droid Mini, make sure to drop by our comment section below as soon as you get the update and let us know how it fares.
