LG G3 Beat brings premium G3 design and features to mid-range segment

LG has officially unveiled its much-rumored LG G3 Beat, introducing the handset as a mid-range variant of its flagship LG G3 smartphone.

The LG G3 Beat aims to bring the stylish look and some of the premium features of the flagship LG G3 in a slightly more compact form factor that caters to the mid-range segment of the smartphone market. The handset sports a brushed metal design, the Laser Auto Focus introduced with the LG G3, as well as some premium software features.

"The LG G3 Beat was developed to address the growing low- to mid-tier segment of smartphone customers who want a great device that's more compact but still powerful enough to run the most popular apps. With the fast pace of technology in the wireless industry, it's now more possible than ever to offer a smartphone that does all this but at a lower price point than was previously possible. The LG G3 Beat retains the best features and functions of the G3, delivering its values without compromising its usability," LG touts in a new press release on Thursday, July 17.

"Smartphone manufacturers cannot ignore this growing segment of consumers who want the best balance of looks, features, performance and, of course, price," further boasts Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. "The LG G3 Beat represents our commitment to the mid-tier smartphone market that demands mature technology, proven branding, great innovation and attractive price, all in a single device."

In terms of specifications, the new LG G3 Beat sports a 5-inch HD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and a pixel density of 294 pixels per inch (ppi), offering a 74.1 percent screen-to-body ratio that's the highest in the mid-tier category, according to LG. Considering the handset's display size, it makes sense why the company chose not to call it the LG G3 Mini.

Other specs of the LG G3 Beat include a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2GHz, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage capacity, microSD support for additional memory, and a 2,540 mAh battery. The handset features an 8-megapixel rear camera with Laser Auto Focus that allows users to take high-quality photos faster.

Overall, the LG G3 Beat sports the same Floating Arc Design as the LG G3 flagship, which makes the two devices look nearly identical save for their size. On the software side, the LG G3 Beat comes with Android KitKat on board and several features from the flagship, including the Touch & Shoot camera mode, Smart Keyboard, Knock Code, and Knock On.

The LG G3 Beat will launch in South Korea on Friday, July 18, arriving in Metallic Black, Silk White, and Shine Gold color options. The smartphone will also land in Europe and CSI countries in the next few weeks, launching as the LG G3 s. LG has yet to reveal pricing details for the device, but we'll let you know as soon as we hear more.
