HTC One (M8) for Windows Phone to hit Verizon on Aug. 21

The much-rumored HTC One (M8) for Windows Phone has apparently received Wi-Fi certification a while ago and is ready to hit Verizon next month, on Aug, 21.

The HTC One (M8) for Windows Phone is expected to hit the market as a new version of the popular HTC One M8 smartphone powerhouse, but running Microsoft's latest Windows Phone 8.1 OS instead of Android.

HTC's current flagship smartphone, the One M8, is considered one of the best smartphones on the market, boasting top-notch specs and features to make it worthy of the flagship title. The version designed to run Microsoft's Windows Phone platform is expected to remain unchanged in terms of hardware specifications.

This purported HTC One (M8) for Windows Phone reportedly received Wi-Fi certification over a month ago, but somehow this information only surfaced now. Moreover, a new report now leaks the handset's purported launch date, claiming that it will join Verizon's portfolio next month. The HTC One (M8) for Windows Phone is apparently the final name of the handset, although it has also been referred to as the One W8.

While some reports indicated that the HTC One (M8) for Windows Phone would hit the market sometime by the end of September, one report from WPCentral offers a more specific timeframe. According to the publication's sources, the smartphone will hit Microsoft Stores on Aug. 20 and go on sale a day later. The handset will be available on Verizon's network in the U.S.

WPCentral further notes that the HTC One (M8) for Windows Phone will come with various accessories available for purchase (separately), including the Dot View case that made its debut with the HTC One M8 flagship.

The new HTC One (M8) for Windows Phone is expected to look identical to the HTC One M8, but come with Windows Phone 8.1 GDR1 (Update 1) out of the box. The handset is also rumored to boast VoLTE support, unlike the original flagship. Other than that, the smartphone is expected to sport the same 5-inch 1080p display, 2.3Ghz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage capacity, depth-sensing Duo Camera (UltraPixel), 5-megapixel front shooter, and dual BoomSound front speakers.

Lastly, WPCentral also managed to get some info on the smartphone's possible price. According to the publication, the HTC One (M8) for Windows Phone should cost roughly $610 outright, or $199 on-contract.

Keep in mind, however, that nothing is officially confirmed at this point. As always in this case, take all leaks, rumors and speculation with a grain of salt.
