Samsung Galaxy Note 4 to debut on Sept. 3 at pre-IFA 2014 event

Samsung may unveil its next-generation Galaxy Note 4 at a pre-IFA 2014 event on Sept. 3 in Berlin, according to a new report.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is among the most highly-anticipated devices of this year and is expected to come out with high-end specs and features all around. The current flagship phablet from Samsung, the Galaxy Note 3, is already a powerhouse, and its successor should be even more impressive.

According to a new report out of Korea, the new Galaxy Note 4 flagship phablet for 2014 may officially debut on Sept. 3, ahead of the much-rumored launch of Apple's iPhone 6 smartphone.

Korea Times claims that Samsung wants to launch its Galaxy Note 4 in September particularly aiming to challenge next-generation iPhone, which is expected to launch in two models with 4.7- and 5.5-inch screens. The publication cites executives of a top-tier component supplier for Samsung.

"Samsung will hold an event to announce the Note 4 on Sept. 3, just a few days before this year's IFA trade fair in Berlin, Germany - Europe's biggest technology exhibition," one of those executives reportedly said.

Judging by Samsung's previous launch schedules, this purported Sept. 3 event for the Galaxy Note 4 unveiling makes sense. Samsung introduced the Galaxy Note 3 on Sept. 5 last year at an event outside of IFA, and may go down the same path this year with its new-generation flagship phablet.

Korea Times' sources have also indicated that Samsung plans to send out official invites for this event soon. When it comes to the Note 4's features, an ultraviolet sensor is among the expected highlights.

"The Note 4 will be the first smartphone to incorporate an ultraviolet sensor," an executive from a Korea-based software partner of Samsung reportedly said. "The sensor can measure UV radiation and measure index levels to Note 4 users inside the 'S Health' application."

The Korea Times report further lists other purported specs for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, including Qualcomm processors with support for fourth-generation LTE. The Korean version of the phablet is also expected to support LTE-Advanced.

Other rumored specs include a 5.7-inch AMOLED display with a QHD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor for the Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and North American markets, and an Exynos chip for all other regions, including Europe.

Nothing is officially confirmed at this point, but a Sept. 3 unveiling for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 sounds quite plausible. As always in such cases, however, take everything with a grain of salt until the company makes an announcement.
