LG is reportedly rolling out an update to fix the issue of the corroded terminal pins on the back of the LG G Watch, which affected some users.
More specifically, some LG G Watch owners have reported that the gadget's charging pins maintain a current that can cause it to be quite uncomfortable. When combined with a sweaty wrist, for instance, this issue triggers corrosion, skin irritation, and even minor burns.
LG is reportedly aware of this issue and will fix it soon by rolling out an update. No official changelog is currently available, but the update will reportedly bump the build number to KMV78Y.
According to LG, only a small number of devices are affected by this corrosion buildup on the back pins, and the devices are still completely safe. Moreover, the issue is reportedly unlikely to affect charging.
While the corroded pins may not seem like an issue that can be fixed with a software update, LG has a solution. The company will release an over-the-air (OTA) maintenance release that will disable the current when the LG G Watch is on the charging dock, thus fixing the issue. This way, the update will prevent the corrosion process, eliminating the feeling of discomfort.
"Recently it has come to our attention that a small number of G Watch devices have been reported to have developed discoloration and residue buildup on the terminal pins located on the back," LG reckoned in a statement to Android Police. "While completely safe and unlikely to affect charging, LG will be rolling out a maintenance release over the next few days that will disable the current when the G Watch is not in the charging dock. The maintenance release will be rolled out automatically over-the-air to all G Watch owners. We thank G Watch users for their patience and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused."
The company didn't give an exact date for when the update will roll out to the LG G Watch, but should become available anytime now. Keep an eye out for the maintenance release and drop by our comment section below once you get it to let us know whether it fixed the issue.
