Samsung Galaxy S5 Active reportedly headed to Europe soon for €629

The rugged Samsung Galaxy S5 Active smartphone is apparently ready to make its debut in Europe soon, if a new report turns out to be accurate.

While the smartphone has been available in the U.S. for a good while, it has yet to expand its reach to other markets. The Samsung Galaxy S5 Active, as the name suggests, is a more rugged version of the already dust- and water-resistant Galaxy S5 flagship.

A new report now claims that interested buyers in Europe will soon be able to get their hands on the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active.

"For some reason, Samsung has kept the device exclusive to carriers in the US, but it turns out the exclusivity will be short-lived as our sources tell us that the Galaxy S5 Active will be headed to Europe in the near future," SamMobile reveals in an exclusive new report on Monday, Sept. 8.

According to the publication, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active will become available in Europe in silver and green color options, launching at a suggested retail price of €629. SamMobile doesn't have any exact launch timeframe, but nonetheless expects the device to hit retail in Europe soon.

As a reminder, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active sports a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and packs a 2.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor under the hood. Other specs include 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage capacity, microSD support for additional memory of up to 128GB, a 16-megapixel rear camera, a 2-megapixel front shooter, a heart-rate sensor, and a 2,800 mAh battery. On the software side, the handset runs Android 4.4 KitKat.

The smartphone doesn't have a fingerprint scanner like the original Galaxy S5, but it does have a dedicated key for the Activity Zone, which includes features such as barometer, compass, stopwatch, and flashlight. The same key can also serve as a camera shutter.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Active also comes with extra ruggedness, in the form of IP67 certification and a military-grade Mil-STD 810G rating that guarantees protection against shock, temperature, rain, and humidity.

Keep in mind, however, that Samsung has yet to make an official announcement regarding the Galaxy S5 Active's launch in other parts of the world, so this purported European release remains in the rumor state for now. We'll keep you up to date as soon as we learn more, but take everything with a grain of salt in the meantime.
