Amazon unveiled impressive new tablets as part of its 2014 lineup, but it also has some love for e-reader fans with its new Kindle Voyage.
The company's range of e-readers has been quite successful so far and the new Kindle Voyage is the latest member to join the family, debuting alongside a refreshed original Kindle that now comes with touch support.
The new Amazon Kindle Voyage comes with a $199 price tag and, as the name suggests, aims to be portable enough to be taken anywhere. The device is just 7.6mm-thick and is lightweight as well, tipping the scales at 6.4 ounces. In fact, Amazon boasts that it's the thinnest device it has ever made and its most advanced e-reader yet.
The new model comes with a new Paperwhite panel that will display your favorite books in higher resolution, and it also comes with increased brightness and contrast to make it even easier to read. The Kindle Voyage also comes with a neat new feature called PressPages, which aims to make it more convenient to turn pages.
"Our mission with Kindle is to make the device disappear, so you can lose yourself in the author's words," Amazon Founder and CEO Jeff Bezos touted in the press release. "Kindle Voyage is the next big step in this mission. With the thinnest design, highest resolution and highest contrast display, reimagined page turns, and all of the features that readers love about Kindle - books in seconds, no eyestrain or glare, readability in bright sunlight, and battery life measured in weeks, not hours - Kindle Voyage is crafted from the ground up for readers."
The new PressPages technology employs a custom-designed force sensor which, when gently pressed, will quickly turn the page. The Kindle Voyage will also offer users tactile feedback to subtly notify them that they've gone to the next page, just in case they pressed it by accident.
The refreshed Kindle, meanwhile, now comes with a touch interface and an attractive $79 price tag, while also boasting a 20 percent faster processor compared to its predecessor. This model also comes with twice as much storage on board and supports popular features such as Goodreads, Kindle FreeTime, and Smart Lookup.
In terms of availability, the refreshed Kindle will go on sale on Oct. 2, while the new Amazon Kindle Voyage will hit commercial availability on Oct. 21. The all-new Kindle with touch support is available for pre-order from Amazon's website at this link, while the Kindle Voyage can be pre-ordered here.
