The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy S5 handsets will reportedly get the latest Android L (version 5.0) soon, just in time for the holidays.
Samsung has always been quite prompt in providing the latest Android updates to its high-end devices, at least if you don't count the international version of the Samsung Galaxy S3.
Word on the street now is that the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy S5 smartphones are in for a software treat soon, which should deliver notable upgrades. According to a new report, both handsets should get the upcoming Android L within the next couple of months.
"Both devices should get the Android L update by the end of November/early December - it's not clear when Google will make the new version available for Nexus devices, but based on our info Samsung should be pretty quick at adapting it for its own devices," SamMobile reports.
Android L is expected to arrive as Google's biggest operating system (OS) update so far, adding a slew of new features to the table, including support for 64-bit processors, lockscreen notifications, ART runtime for apps, and many others. Design tweaks and interface enhancements should also be in the cards, if previous updates are anything to go by.
As most of you already know, Google typically releases each new OS version with a launch vehicle - a Nexus device made in collaboration with another company. This year the company is expected to launch a Nexus X (Nexus 6) smartphone from Motorola, as well as a large-screen Nexus 9 tablet made in collaboration with HTC. Neither the Nexus X nor the Nexus 9 are officially confirmed at this point, but should make their debut soon enough.
The new-generation Nexus devices should showcase the latest Android L software, after which the OS will be ready to hit other devices. As usual, other members of the Nexus family will be the first in line to get the upgrade, followed by Google Play Edition devices, and only after that will other handsets get the new OS.
If this report turns out to be accurate, it means that Google should unveil its new Nexus devices sometime next month, otherwise Samsung's Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy S5 would not get the Android L update in late November or early December.
It's all in the rumor state for now, however, so make sure to take everything with a grain of salt until some official information becomes available.
