Samsung Gear S smartwatch with cellular connectivity could have its own plan on Sprint

The Samsung Gear S smartwatch with cellular connectivity will apparently have its own plan on Sprint, according to a newly-leaked document.

The smartwatch market is on the rise and Samsung is one of the companies that want to take advantage of the flourishing wearable device industry. The company has already launched several smartwatches, but its latest - the Gear S - is the most interesting.

The Samsung Gear S comes with good specs and features on board, but it stands out from the crowd due to its 3G connectivity, something that most other smartwatches lack. While other wearable devices require pairing with a smartphone to make and take calls, deliver notifications, and others such, the Samsung Gear S can function independently. The gadget comes with a SIM card slot of its own, which allows it to serve as a standalone device without necessarily requiring users to pair it with a smartphone to make and receive calls.

As it turns out, the Samsung Gear S will apparently also get its own plan on at least one carrier. The folks over at Phandroid have obtained an internal Sprint document, detailing a special plan for the smartwatch.

"Trusted sources close to the matter have revealed to Phandroid that the Samsung Gear S will have a special plan on Sprint, and likely any other carrier it heads to once it launches," the publication reports. "As such, you'll need a plan to tie it to and you have one of two options for achieving that."

More specifically, this leaked document reveals that Sprint customers can either choose a $9.99 plan with 1000 minutes, 1000 text messages, and 100MB of data, or a $10 add-on to a Family Share Pack that will allow them to share calls, text, and data among multiple devices.

The Samsung Gear S is also expected to hit other major U.S. carriers, including AT&T, Verizon Wireless, and T-Mobile, which may come up with similar offers for the smartwatch.

As a reminder, the Samsung Gear S sports a 2-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 360 x 480 pixels, a dual-core 1GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, and 4GB of internal storage capacity. Other notable features include 3G support, dust and water resistance, and Samsung's own Tizen as the operating system. A 400 mAh battery, meanwhile, will keep things up and running.

Sprint made no announcement so far regarding its plans for the Samsung Gear S, however, which means that it all remains in the rumor state at this point. We'll keep you up to date as soon as more information becomes available, but take everything with a grain of salt in the meantime.
