The Android Wear-powered Sony SmartWatch 3 has officially gone up for pre-order from Verizon Wireless, sporting a $249.99 price tag.
The Sony SmartWatch 3 is the latest wearable device from Sony and launches as the successor to the popular SmartWatch 2, but at the same time it arrives as the company's very first gadget running Google's Android Wear operating system.
Sony's latest smartwatch drew plenty of interest since its announcement and many interested shoppers were eagerly waiting for its commercial debut, and we're now edging closer to that moment.
Just a few days ago, the Sony SmartWatch 3 popped up on the Google Play Store, but the "Buy" button was grayed out and customers couldn't actually purchase the device. The smartwatch has now gone up for pre-order from Verizon Wireless as well, with shipping set to occur by the end of this month.
"Make your Android experience even greater with the Sony SmartWatch 3. Use it to interact with your smartphone or tablet without ever taking it out from your bag or pocket. Sleek and stylish, functional with multiple practical applications, the SmartWatch 3 brings convenience to your life. Choose from a wide variety of apps available at Google Play and enjoy SmartWatch lifestyle," Verizon touts on the product page.
Verizon lists the Sony SmartWatch 3 with a $249.99 price tag, and notes that pre-orders will ship by Oct. 30. The carrier will sell the device with the latest Android Wear update pre-installed, which finally allows users to play music stored locally through Bluetooth headphones. The latest Android Wear update also enables GPS functionality, but the Sony SmartWatch 3 already comes with built-in GPS. Nevertheless, running the newest version of the software is definitely a plus.
"Contextually aware and smart, Android Wear gives you useful information at a glance and responds to your voice. It actually feeds you relevant and specific information as you move. At a glance, you can view tiny snippets of useful information on the go. It could be flight information, tips based on your interests, or messages of any kind," Verizon further explains.
Interested buyers who would rather not deal with Verizon, meanwhile, will also be able to get the Sony SmartWatch 3 from Google Play. As previously mentioned, the Play Store already listed a product page for the device, and it shouldn't be too long until it becomes available for purchase. No exact date is available for when the smartwatch will go on sale on Google Play, but the "coming soon" label suggests an imminent launch.
