The highly-anticipated Nexus 9 tablet from HTC has officially gone on sale on the Google Play Store, ready to ship in 1 - 2 business days.
Google's Nexus 9 tablet made in collaboration with HTC was one of the most-highly anticipated devices of this year and it officially made its debut on Oct. 15, going up for pre-order a couple of days later.
The HTC Nexus 9 is now officially available for purchase, in stock, and ready to ship from Google Play, as of Monday, Oct. 3. The official retail launch of the Nexus 9 on Google Play also marks the start of availability for Android 5.0 Lollipop devices, as the Nexus 6 and Nexus Player have yet to hit retail.
At the same time, the Nexus 9 also marks HTC's return to this segment of the market, as it comes as the first Android tablet since the Flyer failure, as well as the revival of the collaboration between Google and HTC.
The Nexus 9 does not come with the highly-acclaimed design of the HTC One lineup as it was rumored at some point, but the tablet is nonetheless impressive and boasts top-notch specs and features all around.
For those unfamiliar with the device, the Nexus 9 comes with an 8.9-inch display with a resolution of 2048 x 1536 and a 4:3 aspect ratio like the iPad, as opposed to the 16:9 ratio found on most tablets. Under the hood, the new Nexus tablet packs a 64-bit NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor, launching as the first Nexus device with 64-bit support.
Other specs include 2GB of RAM, 192-core Kepler graphics, an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 1.6-megapixel front shooter, optional LTE, NFC, and the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box. The Nexus 9 comes in 16GB and 32GB internal storage configurations and three color options - Indigo Black, Lunar White, and Sand. The tablet further boasts a pair of BoomSound speakers on its front panel, courtesy of HTC.
Only the black and white Wi-Fi Nexus 9 models have gone on sale on Google Play for now, with the Sand and LTE models still listed as "coming soon." The 16GB Nexus 6 costs $399, while the 32GB model goes up to $479. As previously mentioned, the models available for purchase now on Google Play will ship in 1 - 2 business days. The Nexus Player, meanwhile, is still set to ship in 2 - 3 weeks, while the Nexus 6 remains out of inventory.
