Roku has officially announced that it added support for Google Play Movies and TV programs to its lineup of Roku players and sticks.
As more streaming devices and players are joining the market, competition is heating up and increasingly better options are becoming available for this segment. Roku is also boosting its offers to stay competitive, and over the weekend the company has announced the availability of Google Play Movies and TV programs.
The newly-added Google Play content is most likely great news for numerous Roku users, and is now available via its Channel Store in the U.S., the UK, Ireland, and Canada.
Users who want to watch a movie or TV show via the new Google Play content will also be able to enjoy Google Play Info Cards, which are designed to provide additional information about movies, actors, and entertainment.
"We feel a major streaming marathon coming on! Today, we're thrilled to announce that Google Play Movies & TV has been added to our expansive Channel Store in the U.S., U.K., Ireland and Canada. With the addition of Google Play Movies & TV, you now have more options than ever to watch the entertainment you love on your Roku player," Roku touted in its announcement.
"From the hottest new releases to iconic classics, there's a world of movies at your fingertips with Google Play Movies & TV. Get new releases like 22 Jump Street, Into the Storm and Let's Be Cops in SD or HD before they are available on DVD."
Moreover, Roku points out that users should hit the "Gift from Google" section, as a free HD copy of X-Men will be available when signing up for a new Google Play account.
"Check back next week, you never know what new title will pop up!" adds the announcement.
Roku now has notable players such as Google's Chromecast, Amazon's Fire TV and Fire Stick, and others such to compete with, but the new Google Play content may help boost its popularity and attract more users.
Google Play Movies & TV are now available in the Channel Store for current-generation Roku Players, and Roku TV support is also slated to follow soon.
