Google has officially announced that it is extending the availability of its new Motorola Nexus 6, although the smartphone has been barely available in the U.S.
The Nexus 6 made in collaboration with Motorola is considered one of the hottest smartphones currently on the market, and it's already shaping up to be in great demand. Packing top-notch specs and features all around, as well as the much-touted Nexus experience that guarantees timely updates as soon as they are released, the Nexus 6 has drawn lots of attention and is expected to be widely popular.
Google launched its Nexus 6 in the U.S. only in limited supply, with pre-orders selling out in less than 24 hours on Google Play. The company then announced that it will replenish stock every Wednesday, but this week whatever stock Google added vanished in no time. Motorola has also started selling the Nexus 6 on its own website in the U.S., but the smartphone appears as out of stock here as well, with a "Notify me" option.
Nevertheless, Google is apparently getting ready to launch its new Nexus 6 smartphone in other markets around the world. According to a support page from the company, the Motorola Nexus 6 will be headed to Australia, Belgium, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, UK and Canada. Google doesn't mention exact launch dates for these countries, but says that the Nexus 6 is "coming soon" in the UK and Canada.
It remains to be seen just how much stock Google has reserved for these new markets, as the Nexus 6 seems to be in rather limited supply for now. It's unclear at this point whether this is just a marketing stunt to boost anticipation for the device, or whether Google has severely underestimated Nexus 6 demand and failed to prepare adequate supply.
As a reminder, the Motorola Nexus 6 sports a massive 5.96-inch display with a QHD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels and packs a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor under the hood, clocked at 2.7GHz and paired with Adreno 420 graphics. Other specs include 16GB or 32GB of internal storage capacity, a 13-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), dual-LED ring lash, and 4K video recording capabilities, while a 2-megapixel front shooter will allow for video chats and selfies.
The Nexus 6 further comes with a large 3,200 mAh battery and supports Qi wireless charging, as well as Motorola's new Turbo Charge feature that adds hours of battery life with just a 15-minute charge. The handset is also water-resistant, and comes with the very latest Android 5.0 Lollipop on board.
