BlackBerry has a few special holiday deals in store, including an option to trade in an iPhone and get substantial credit toward the purchase of a BlackBerry Passport.
With the holiday season upon us, increasingly attractive offers are becoming available from various companies, retailers, and carriers. One company that could really use some extra oomph this holiday season is BlackBerry, as the Canadian OEM has been bleeding customers in the last few years as it lost significant ground to rivals on the mobile market.
BlackBerry is determined to stay relevant and keep its head above the water, and the latest attempt to lure in more customers brings heavy discounts on the current BlackBerry Passport flagship smartphone.
In a press release on Monday, Nov. 24, BlackBerry announced its holiday incentive plans that aim to make it easier and more affordable to get a new BlackBerry smartphone.
Interested customers who would like to ditch iOS to "work wide" on a BlackBerry Passport, for instance, can trade in their old iPhone and get up to $550 toward the purchase of the new BlackBerry flagship.
"BlackBerry is launching the BlackBerry Passport Trade-Up Program, aimed at iPhone users that want to convert to the new BlackBerry Passport. For a limited time, starting December 1, iPhone users can upgrade to a BlackBerry Passport and get up to $400 USD/CAD back on their iPhone, plus an additional $150 USD ($200 CAD) from BlackBerry," the company explains.
This program will run through Feb. 13, 2015, and is valid only in North America. Current iPhone models that qualify for this program include the iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5C, iPhone 5S, and iPhone 6. Interested customers can learn more about this program or get an estimate for their current iPhone on BlackBerry's website at this link.
According to the BlackBerry trade-up page, the aforementioned iPhone models will get you between $300 and $550 ($600 CAD) in total, which is a far better trade-in value compared to similar options from other carriers and manufacturers.
The BlackBerry Passport has stirred plenty of interest since its debut, mainly due to its square form factor, powerful specs, and odd 1440 x 1440 resolution. The handset packs good specs and features on board and comes with the latest BB 10.3 OS on board and all its perks, but it remains to be seen whether it will be able to turn things around for the ailing Canadian company.
