HP unveils ‘world’s thinnest and lightest’ business notebooks: EliteBook Folio 1020 line

HP has unveiled its new EliteBook Folio 1020 lineup, consisting of two business ultrabooks: the EliteBook 1020 and the EliteBook 1020 Special Edition.

The company boasts that its new EliteBook Folio 1020 models are the thinnest and lightest business laptops currently available on the market, delivering true portability. Both models measure just 15.7mm in thickness, and the special edition weighs in at just 2.2lbs.

"The HP EliteBook1020 represents game-changing innovation in both materials and mechanical engineering to create the world's thinnest and lightest business notebooks in a form that enables our customers to be more productive in more places," Alex Cho, vice president & general manager of HP Commercial PCs, said in the press release on Tuesday, Dec. 2.

"Customers demand not only a stylish, thin and light notebook, but also a device that delivers advanced security and can withstand the rigorous demands that come with a highly mobile lifestyle - and the HP EliteBook 1020 delivers this complete solution."

Both the EliteBook 1020 and the EliteBook 1020 Special Edition sport 12.5-inch displays with QHD (2K) resolution, and the standard model also comes with an optional touchscreen. Both models also come with a new feature called the HP Premium Keyboard, which is designed to offer a consistent key response for a better experience.

Other features of the new HP EliteBook 1020 lineup include front-facing speakers with DTS Sound Studio and HD Audio, along with HP Noise Reduction software, as well as a webcam with 720p resolution for video calls.

Both models come with Intel Core-M processors under the hood, SSDs, fanless designs, and MIL-STD 810G military-grade testing for extra ruggedness and durability. The notebooks will provide up to nine hours of battery life and a suite of security features to support their business-class proficiency. Such features include a fingerprint reader, HP's Sure Start self-healing BIOS, pre-boot authentication, and others. HP Client Management Solutions are also on the table, as well as optional Intel vPro and LANDesk technology.

The new HP EliteBook 1020 will make its commercial debut in February 2015, while its Special Edition counterpart will arrive later next year, in April. HP has yet to offer any pricing details for the two ultrabooks, but should offer more information closer to launch.

Along with the new EliteBooks, HP also has some neat updates for its existing EliteBooks notebooks and convertibles, which will boast the latest generation of Intel Core processors and other upgrades. Check out the company's press release for more details.
