Motorola reportedly planning QHD Droid phablet with Snapdragon 810 CPU for mid-2015

Motorola may already be working on a new Droid device with very impressive specifications to launch in mid-2015, according to a new report.

The company has definitely stepped up its game recently, launching increasingly more impressive devices. First, its new Moto X (2014) came with notable improvements over its predecessor. Then, Motorola gave Google the perfect goodbye gift with the Nexus 6, before leaving its arms to go under Lenovo's umbrella. Perhaps the most impressive Droid, however, is the recently-launched Verizon Droid Turbo, which has all it takes to be a true top-notch flagship.

Nevertheless, a new rumor is now making rounds claiming that Motorola is already working on a new phablet that will retain the physical design of the Nexus 6, but pack higher-end internals. If this rumor turns out to be true, this purported device could be the very first 6-inch Droid phablet to join Verizon's lineup.

The information popped up on Droid Forums, citing insider sources. This purported Droid device will allegedly boast the same 5.9-inch QHD display as the Google Nexus 6, but rock a more powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor paired with 4GB of RAM to show off the processor's 64-bit architecture. The purported device will allegedly ramp things up in the battery department as well, boasting a large 4,000 mAh unit.

"According to the leaked intel, the phablet style Droid will supposedly come sometime in the middle of 2015. The leaker did also share that there is a chance it will not end up as a Droid device, but will simply be a non-Nexus branded Motorola alternative. We have not been able to get any third party confirmation of this rumor, but we wanted to share it anyway," Droid Forums editor in chief further explains.

The post further notes that the information seems "pretty solid," and points out that such a strategy would not be unprecedented for Motorola. The current Droid Turbo came as a more advanced version of the new Moto X (2014), and it wouldn't be all that surprising if Motorola and Verizon would make a similar move in 2015, albeit on phablet territory.

Keep in mind, however, that none of this is confirmed at this point, so make sure to take this news with a healthy dose of skepticism.
