HP Chromebook 14 Touch launches with FHD display and touchscreen at $440

HP has officially launched its Chromebook 14 Touch in the U.S., as the device is now available for purchase with a $440 price tag.

Back in September, HP unveiled its new line of Chromebooks powered by NVIDIA's powerful Tegra K1 processor. At the time, the company said that a Chromebook with a full HD display and a touchscreen would become available in a few months, and the day has finally come.

HP's latest Chromebook is one of the few Chrome OS notebooks to boast a full HD display, as well as one of the few to have a touchscreen. In other words, it's one of the only models to combine both full HD resolution and touch support.

In terms of specifications, the new HP Chromebook 14-x050nr Touch sports a 14-inch display with a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, packs an NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor under the hood, and features 4GB of RAM and 32GB of flash storage.

The HP Chromebook 14 Touch further supports Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.0, and comes with one USB 3.0 port, two USB 2.0 ports, as well as HDMI output. A 37Wh battery keeps things up and running and should last for at least eight hours on a single charge, according to HP.

The laptop measures 13.5 x 0.5 x 0.7 inches and weighs in at 3.8 pounds.

"Express yourself with a wide 14-inch Full HD capacitive touch screen in a slim package, styled in a vibrant range of color options," HP touts on the Chromebook 14 Touch product page. "The latest-generation NVIDIA fanless processor gives you speed, power, and performance, with battery life that lasts."

Considering that Chromebooks start at $250, however, the new HP Chromebook 14 Touch may be considered quite expensive with its $440 price tag. On the other hand, it's roughly one third of the price of the hefty Chromebook Pixel, which is one of the few other options when it comes to high-resolution, touch-enabled Chrome OS machines. Admittedly, Google's Pixel does sport a higher resolution and a faster processor compared to HP's Chromebook 14 Touch, but it's still seen as expensive for a Chrome OS device.

In other words, Chrome OS fans looking for a full HD Chromebook with touch support now have another option with the HP Chromebook 14 Touch, and it's arguably more affordable than Google's Chromebook Pixel.
