YotaPhone 2 dual-display smartphone coming soon to a major U.S. carrier

The YotaPhone 2 smartphone with a dual display is coming to a U.S. carrier, a company executive has revealed at CES 2015.

This intriguing smartphone has stirred lots of interest since its debut due to its neat design with two displays, both on the front and on the back of the device.

More specifically, the YotaPhone 2 features a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels on the front, and an e-ink display on the back, with a qHD resolution of 960 x 540 pixels. The second display will obviously draw significantly less power, allowing users to check out notifications, weather, time, or messages at a glance without draining their smartphone's battery.

The handset further packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor clocked at 2.2GHz, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage capacity, and it's currently running Android 4.4.3, albeit with some visual modifications, on the software side. Other specs include an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and auto focus, a 2.1-megapixel front shooter, while a 2,500 mAh battery will keep things up and running.

The YotaPhone 2 made its official debut in early December in London, UK, and is currently available in Europe. The smartphone is apparently ready for a wider release, however, as Matthew Kelly, Managing Director, Americas, told GeekBeat.TV's Lewis and Android Central's Phil Nickinson at CES 2015 that the YotaPhone 2 is headed to the U.S.

The executive didn't reveal the specific operator that will carry the smartphone, but said that the YotaPhone 2 will soon hit one of the four major U.S. carriers. This means that the handset should land on AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Sprint, or T-Mobile. In addition to U.S. availability, the YotaPhone 2 is reportedly set to hit a Canadian carrier as well, but it remains unclear at this point just which carrier is on board.

No exact launch dates are available yet for the U.S. or Canadian launch of the YotaPhone 2, but more details should become available soon enough. We'll keep an eye out for any new information in this regards and keep you up to date as soon as we learn more, so stay tuned.
