AT&T has announced a new data tier for its Mobile Share Value Plan, offering unlimited calls, text messages, and 7GB of shareable data.
This new data tier will go into effect on Sunday, Feb. 15, and will only be available for a limited time. Moreover, AT&T's new rollover data program will cover this new option as well, automatically rolling over any unused data onto the following month. When it comes to pricing, this new 7GB data tier comes in at $75, i.e. just $5 more than the 6GB tier priced at $70.
According to AT&T's press release, 7GB of data will allow users to enjoy 60 hours of music, 12 hours of video, 110 hours of web surfing, uploading 500 photos on social media, downloading 50 apps, and sending or receiving 5,000 emails (see image above).
It's worth pointing out, however, that this new $75 tier covers only the data charges, but no other fees are included in this price. This means that customers who want to sign up for a new two-year service agreement will still have to pay an additional $40 per line to get subsidized devices.
Nevertheless, consumers who want to bring their own devices onto AT&T's network or sign up for the carrier's Next program can reduce the access fee to $15 per month. Here's how AT&T explains it:
"Any customer who buys a smartphone through AT&T Next on the new 7GB Mobile Share Value plan will pay $15 per month for that smartphone line's access charge - our best pricing and a savings of $25 per month when compared to a smartphone on a new 2 year wireless agreement."
"For example, the new 7GB Mobile Share Value plan allows new and existing Mobile Share Value customers with three smartphone lines to take advantage of this deal - all for $120 per month."
When customers switch to AT&T, they can also get $100 bill credit when buying a new smartphone on AT&T Next.
AT&T's new data tier follows a move from Verizon Wireless last week, when Big Red announced it was slashing $10 off most of its More Everything plans and also adding new data tiers.
