Acer Chromebook 910 with Intel Core i5-5200U processor hits the U.S. in April

Acer is ready to launch an upgraded version of its Chromebook C910 education-focused laptop, set to hit the U.S. next month.

The new Acer Chromebook C910 will pack a more powerful Intel Core i5-5200U fifth-generation processor and will be available for roughly $499.99, i.e. $200 more than the previous version launched back in January.

"The new faster performing Acer C910 Chromebook with an Intel Core i5 processor is raising the bar for Chromebook performance," Carlos Siqueiros, mobility business manager, Acer America, said in a press release. "The advanced technology will boost productivity and help our education and commercial customers get the most out of their Chromebook experience for collaboration on important projects and research."

According to the company, the new Acer C910 Chromebook is designed for education, as well as business customers who need some extra screen real estate in addition to "outstanding Chrome performance and a durable design."

The Chromebook C910 retains the durability features of its predecessor, being able to withstand up to 60kg of pressure thanks to its tough shell. Moreover, the laptop can survive drops from 45cm, and also boasts reinforced hinges for increased durability. The company further boasts that the C910 Chromebook rocks the "largest touchpad on any Chromebook" to date.

In terms of specifications, the Acer Chromebook C910 features a 15.6-inch IPS display with either a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels or an HD resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. Both versions feature Acer ComfyView with anti-glare properties.

Under the hood, the Chrome OS laptop packs a fifth-generation Intel Core i5-5200 U processor, 4GB of RAM, and 32GB of SSD storage. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11ac with MIMO technology, Bluetooth 4.0, USB 3.0, USB 2.0, and HDMI ports. In terms of battery life, the company claims that the Chromebook C910 can deliver up to eight hours on a single charge.

The Acer Chromebook C910 weighs 4.85 pounds (2.2kg) and measures 15.4 x 10.8 x 0.95 inches (393 x 256 x 24.2 mm).

When it comes to pricing and availability, the upgraded Acer C910 Chromebook (C910-54M1) will launch in the U.S. in April, at a suggested retail price of $499.99. Exact specs, pricing, and availability will vary by region.
