The metal-clad Samsung Galaxy A series of smartphones may soon get a taste of Android 5.0 Lollipop, if a new report turns out to be accurate.
For a long time, Samsung has been widely criticized for its love of plastic, launching even its highest-end flagships with polycarbonate bodies. Fans have long been requesting a full-metal Galaxy smartphone with a more premium design, and the company finally delivered with its Galaxy A series last year.
Samsung first launched the Galaxy A3 and Galaxy S5 handsets with mid-range specifications, but boasting a sleek full-metal design that made them look and feel more premium. The company later launched the Galaxy A7 with higher-end specifications and the same sleek metal design, stirring even more interest among consumers.
All smartphones in the Samsung Galaxy A series launched with Android KitKat on board, but they may be in for a software treat soon. According to a new report from SamMobile, citing unnamed sources, the Galaxy A3, Galaxy A5, and Galaxy A7 may soon get a taste of Android 5.0 Lollipop.
"Our insiders have revealed to us today that Samsung has started working on the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Galaxy A series," SamMobile reports. "We have also been told that Samsung has not yet begun developing Android 5.1 for any compatible device. This isn't surprising at all given the fact that Google's latest stable version has been out for a couple of weeks now."
Android 5.0 Lollipop comes as the last major version of Android, bringing a slew of changes, improvements and new features over the previous version of the software. A number of devices have already received Android 5.0 Lollipop for a while now, and more are expected to follow shortly.
In addition to the Galaxy A series, Samsung is also expected to update its older Galaxy Note 2 to Lollipop soon. As SamMobile points out, Samsung's Finland arm recently confirmed that the Galaxy Note 2 is indeed invited to the Lollipop party and should receive the update shortly. Newer Galaxy smartphones and phablets already run Android 5.0 Lollipop.
It remains unclear at this point just when the Samsung Galaxy A series will start receiving Android 5.0 Lollipop as well, but more information should come to light soon.
