Apple will reportedly release a plastic iPhone 6C later this year, and some newly-leaked photos now allegedly show the upcoming handset.
Back in 2013, Apple launched a high-end iPhone 5S as its flagship smartphone for the year, as well as an iPhone 5C alternative with lower-end specifications and a plastic build to lower the costs.
The iPhone 5C was not exactly the resounding success the company was likely hoping to see, however, as it was still more expensive than many expected. The handset was indeed more affordable than its flagship counterpart, but it was also more expensive than other smartphones with comparable specs, running different platforms.
Last year, Apple introduced two high-end smartphones, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, finally moving toward larger screens. The company did not unveil any plastic variant at the time, which led many to believe it gave up on such efforts.
Nevertheless, the rumor mill started churning recently in regards to a purported iPhone 6C, and some intriguing images have now made their way online claiming to show the upcoming device.
The images leaked from Future Supplier (via Nowhereelse.fr), showing a colorful iPhone with a plastic build, similar in size to the previous iPhone 5C. This means that the iPhone 6C may come with the same 4-inch display size as its predecessor.
The overall design looks similar to the iPhone 5C as well, albeit with a couple of notable differences. As Future Supplier points out, the rear shell they obtained shows two considerable changes. First of all, the rear flash camera hole has apparently been modified to an oval shape, resembling the iPhone 5S flash rather than the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, both of which have round, dual-LED flash.
The other difference, meanwhile, refers to the second line of speaker holes at the bottom, as opposed to the single line found on the iPhone 5C (see images above).
It remains unclear at this point just what specifications the iPhone 6C will pack, or when exactly it will make its debut. It's all in the rumor state at this point, as Apple has not confirmed any plans to launch a new-generation plastic smartphone. Consequently, these newly-leaked images may or may not turn out to be accurate, and the leak should be treated accordingly.
