BlackBerry Leap U.S. pre-orders now live: $275 unlocked (VIDEO)

The new BlackBerry Leap is now officially available for pre-order in the U.S. directly from the company's online store, with a price tag of $275 unlocked.

Starting on Monday, March 30, BlackBerry has officially started accepting pre-orders for the BlackBerry Leap through its online store in the U.S., the UK, and Germany.

It's worth pointing out, however, that BlackBerry announced "limited pre-order availability" for the handset, which means that not all interested customers may be able to get their hands on the device at this point.

As a reminder, the new BlackBerry Leap is an all-touch smartphone with a 5-inch display, sporting an HD resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. Under the hood, the handset packs a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus processor clocked at 1.5 GHz, paired with 2GB of RAM and Adreno 305 graphics. Other specs include 16GB of internal storage capacity, microSD card support for additional memory of up to 128GB, an 8-megapixel rear camera, and a 2-megapixel front shooter. A 2,500 mAh battery will keep things up and running, lasting for up to 25 hours of heavy use, according to BlackBerry. On the software side, the smartphone runs BlackBerry OS 10.3.1.

The BlackBerry Leap promises to offer extra security through its support for encryption, as well as built-in anti-malware protection and back-up, wipe, and restore features. Its "best in class" BlackBerry Keyboard learns the user's writing habits and offers superior error correction, as well as multi-language support and customized adaption. The BlackBerry Hub aims to make it easier to manage all messages in one place, whether they're BBM messages, text messages, emails, or social media.

BlackBerry Leap customers will also be able to access a comprehensive app ecosystem, getting BlackBerry apps from BlackBerry World and Android apps from the Amazon Appstore. At the same time, web apps are also available via the "industry-leading" BlackBerry Browser. Lastly, BlackBerry Blend will allow users to bring messaging and content from their phone to their PC or tablet for extra convenience.

As previously mentioned, the BlackBerry Leap is now available for pre-order in the U.S. directly from the BlackBerry Store, sporting a $275 price tag unlocked. Keep in mind, however, that the smartphone will not work on Verizon Wireless, Sprint, and U.S. Cellular.
