Owners of the first generation Motorola Moto X, Moto E, or Moto G LTE are in for some good news, as the handsets will get a neat update.
Motorola has been one of the promptest OEMs when it comes to delivering the latest Android update to its flagship devices, but its first generation Moto X, Moto E, and Moto G LTE are yet to get a taste of Lollipop. Device owners have been patiently waiting for the update, and it's apparently worth the wait.
The company has been testing the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop in several markets over the past few weeks, albeit the update has not actually made it to the public. At the same time, Motorola has also been testing the latest Android 5.1 Lollipop in parallel with Android 5.0.2, and the company apparently decided to go straight for the latest build.
This means that Motorola will skip Android 5.0 Lollipop altogether and upgrade its first generation Moto X, Moto E, and Moto G 4G LTE straight to Android 5.1 Lollipop. Motorola pulled a similar scheme with the Droid Turbo update back in mid-March, and the move has been greatly appreciated by consumers.
The latest news comes from Motorola's David Schuster, who made the announcement on his Google+ account.
"As some of you might know, we've been testing Lollipop 5.0.2 upgrades on Moto X (1st Gen), Moto E (1st Gen) and Moto G with 4G LTE (1st Gen) in several regions. In parallel we have started testing Lollipop 5.1 which was recently released by Google. Given the improvements in Lollipop 5.1, we have decided to move all efforts to upgrade these devices directly from KitKat to Lollipop 5.1," reads the announcement.
Schuster offered no information in regards to when the update will be ready to start rolling out to the first generation Moto X, Moto E, and Moto G 4G LTE, but it's nonetheless good to know that it's on its way. It may take a while longer for the handsets to receive the update to Lollipop, but many may find it worth the wait considering that they'll go straight to the very latest version. We'll keep you up to date as soon as more details become available, so stay tuned.
